CH11

HER POV

As morning dawned,

I woke up to an empty room. Irfaz had already left, without even bothering to say goodbye or check on me. I felt a pang of sadness, but I pushed it aside and got out of bed.

I went to the bathroom, did my daily routine, and came out feeling a bit more refreshed. I changed into a pink-colored suit, trying to brighten up my mood. I applied some kajal and smudged it to create a makeshift eyeliner, and finished off with a swipe of lip balm.

Feeling a bit more presentable, I headed downstairs to the kitchen. Aunty was already there, busy preparing breakfast.

“As-salamu alaykum,”

I greeted her, trying to sound cheerful despite the turmoil inside me.

Aunty looked up and smiled,

“Wa alaykum as-salam, beta.”

“How are you today?” she asked, her eyes scanning my face for any signs of distress.

“Can I help you?”

I asked her, trying to distract myself from the thoughts of Irfaz’s harsh words from the previous night.

Aunty smiled, “No, beta, I’ve got everything under control.”

“Tum rukho, chai ready hai, sath mein piyenge.” she said, as we both headed to the backyard to enjoy our morning tea.

As we sat down on the patio, Aunty handed me a steaming cup of tea and said,

“Mashallah, badi pyari ho beta.” She complimented me, her eyes shining with warmth.

“Shukriya, Aunty,” I replied, feeling a small smile on my face.

It was nice to have someone appreciate me, especially after the way Irfaz had spoken to me.

“Hmm, actually it was unexpected.... I know.” Mujhe bhi nahi pata kaise kyun hua. Aap bhi shayad pareshan hain, ki achanak se aapka beta mujhe le aaya nikkah karwa ke,” I said, fiddling with my fingers.

Aunty gave me a reassuring smile and reached out to pat my hand gently.

“Beta, life is full of surprises. Kabhi kabhi cheezein hum plan nahi karte, par iska matlab yeh nahi ki woh buri hain.”

I looked down at my cup, still feeling uneasy.

“Lekin Aunty, yeh sab itna jaldi ho gaya. Mujhe nahi pata main iske liye ready hoon ya nahi.”

Aunty’s expression turned serious, and she placed her cup down on the table.

“Beta, I know it’s been a shock for both of us. But we need to talk about this.”

“What do you think about Irfaz?”

“Do you think you can make this marriage work?” she asked, her eyes filled with concern.

I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts.

“Aunty, I...I don’t know. Irfaz is not the person I thought he was..... He’s so different from what I expected. And the way he spoke to me last night...it was like he didn’t even care about my feelings,” I said, my voice trembling slightly.

“Mujhe bhi nahi pata zyada ki woh kya soch raha hai bina bataye. Bas nikkah karne ke baad Irfaz ke abbu ne bataya ki ghar decorate karlo, tumhari bahu aa rahi hai.”

“Sach kahun toh main bhi ready nahi hoon. So thoda time do mujhe tumhe accept karne ke liye bhi aur tum bhi settle ho jao,” Aunty said, her tone gentle and understanding.

“I’ll talk to him, and we’ll figure something out. But for now, let’s just focus on getting through this difficult time, okay?” she said, placing a gentle hand on my arm.

She patted my hand one last time before picking up her cup of tea again.

“Ab, apni chai khatam karte hain”

I nodded, feeling a bit more at ease as we returned to our tea.

the morning sunlight filtering through the window, bringing a sense of hope for the days to come.

--------------------------

As the day passed, I spent most of it holed up in my bedroom.

I got a call from Zayn, Irfaz’s manager.

“Hello, Miss Khan,” he said, his tone formal.

“Sir has scheduled an important meeting at last minute, so can you come?”

I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I was ready to face again after our argument the previous night. But something about Zayn’s tone told me that this meeting was important, and I couldn’t avoid it.

“What time is the meeting?” I asked, trying to sound calm.

“It’s at 3 pm, . Sir would appreciate it if you could be there,” Zayn replied.

I glanced at the clock on my bedside table and saw that it was already 2 pm. I had just enough time to get ready and head out.

“Okay, I’ll be there,” I said, trying to sound confident.

“Thank you, Miss Khan. We’ll see you soon,” Zayn said before hanging up.

I took a deep breath and got out of bed, my mind racing with thoughts of what this meeting could be about. Was Irfaz going to apologize for his behavior last night, or was this about something else entirely? I had no idea, but I was determined to find out.

I headed downstairs and asked my mother-in-law for permission.

“Aunty, I have an important meeting, can I go?” I asked.

She gave me her consent, and I went back to my room to get ready. I put on my abaya and called a cab.
